Department of Applied Statistics

Department of Applied Statistics, East West University is housed under the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering (FSE), has started its journey in East West University in the year 2013.This is the first ever department in a Private University in Bangladesh offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Applied Statistics. The department is currently offering one undergraduate and two graduate programs as follows:

Undergraduate Program: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Applied Statistics

BS in Applied Statistics is a four year program, where each student has to complete a total of 127 credit hours to earn the degree. The program includes both theoretical and application oriented courses, where more emphasis is given on the applications of statistical techniques to real life situations. The program is designed in such a way that after successful completion, the graduates will be equipped to work efficiently and competently in government and non-government organizations, research organizations, research and development sector of banks, insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, academic institutions such as colleges and universities and other related fields in national and international levels.

Graduate Programs: (1) Master of Science (MS) in Applied Statistics:

The Department of Applied Statistics has been offering the Master of Science (MS) in Applied Statistics since 2013. A student will need at least 1 academic year (Total 35 credit hours) to complete the degree. This program is designed carefully to meet the growing demand for applied statisticians in Bangladesh and worldwide. The program will prepare graduates for the statistics profession for scientific fields in government and private sectors. The classes are conducted in the evening session or in the weekends that allows working professionals to complete the degree while continuing their fulltime employment.

Graduate Programs: (2) Master of Science (MS) in Actuarial Science:

The department of Applied Statistics is going to offer M.S. in Actuarial Science from fall 2016 semester. This program is designed to prepare students for the actuarial profession, which involves the application of mathematical and statistical techniques to the field in insurance, banking or other financial organizations where management of risk is an important issue. The MS program is compatible with the programs offered by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK and the Society of Actuaries, USA. The classes are conducted in the evening session or in the weekends that allows working professionals to complete the degree while continuing their fulltime employment.
