The 3rd Inter University TELCO WAREFARE 2014 competition began at EWU To arouse the interest in and awareness of Engineering and IT among in University and higher secondary level students, East West University Telecommunications Club (EWUTC) organized a four day long inter-university TELCO WAREFARE 2014 competition at East West University campus. Social Relation Department arranged a public lecture at EWU The title of the public lecture was 'University partnerships with industry and society for sustainable development: Examples from South-East Asian context'. The Lecture was presented by Professor Dr. Cameron Keith Richards, who is an internationally acclaimed Australian scholar and currently Chair of the research group Sustainable Policy Solutions for Complex Industry and Community Problems (SUSTiP), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in Kuala Lumpur. Fresher’s orientation at East West University The orientation programs of the newly admitted students for Summer Semester 2014 in different academic programs of East West University were held at the University’s own campus, at Aftabnagar, Dhaka on May 8, 2014. Every Department arranged the individual program for their newly admitted students. More than 1100 students got admitted in 10 different disciplines in this semester. Orientation of BBA Program, Spring 2014D The Orientation Program of Spring Semester, 2014 of the Department of Business Administration (DBA) was held on 10 January 2014. The program was aimed at orienting the freshers to their new university life.
They were given a presentation on the Rules and Regulations of the University. It included course registration, calculation of CGPA, concept of probation and dismissal as well as the requirements for availing scholarships and financial assistance from the university.

Fresher’s Reception at EWU The newly enrolled students of the Summer-2014 batch of East West University (EWU) were welcomed with a vibrant musical evening organized by East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) at EWU premises on 29th May, 2014. This program was designed by the ECPA Members keeping in view the demand of the young generation. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU was the Chief Guest while Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar, was the special guest on the occasion. EWU arranged a seminar on ‘Exclusive Economic Zone: Impact of Bangladesh Economy’ The government of Bangladesh wants to maximize the opportunity of explanation of marine resources after the settlement of a maritime boundary with India and Myanmar. The Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid stressed the need to develop skilled human resources for exploration, oil and gas and marine resources of the country in the exclusive economic zone of Bangladesh. The Minister said these at a seminar on ‘Exclusive Economic Zone: Impact on Bangladesh Economy’ held in East West University on 18 November, 2014.
The seminar was organized by East West University in Collaboration with UGC/World Bank Sub Project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development.

The Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department on a field trip organized by the GEB club The Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology department was recently a guest of Dr. M.A. Rahim for a field trip to the BAU-Germplasm center near Mymensingh. Dr. Rahim, the director of the center, gave a fascinating presentation on the impressive accomplishments of the center including the development of more than 60 new varieties of fruits, many of which are already in the markets. 61 Years of DNA: Diamond Jubilee Celebration of DNA Discovery. The event memorialized the day 61 years ago when Watson and Crick first presented the model of the double helix as the structure of DNA. The Network of Young Biotechnologists of Bangladesh organized the event in collaboration with the Department of GEB of the University of Dhaka. Department of Business Administration arranges Seminar on “An Alternative Investigation of Weak Form efficiency in Dhaka Stock Exchange Based on Technical Analysis” The Department of Business Administration, East West University, arranged a seminar on the topic 'An Alternative Investigation of Weak Form efficiency in Dhaka Stock Exchange Based on Technical Analysis' on 26 June 2014.
Mr. Mahbubul Haque Khan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Administration, EWU, presented the research paper. In his presentation, Mr. Haque stated that in general Dhaka Stock Exchange seems to be weak for efficiency. It is one of the main reasons why very few technical studies have been conducted about DSE trade rules. He found in his study that short length moving averages can significantly outperform for buy and hold strategy. It also signals the return predictability of trading rules in the Dhaka Stock Exchange market.

Department of Applied Statistics arranged a Seminar on “A two-step integrated approach to detect differentially expressed genes in RNA-Seq data” The Department of Applied Statistics organized a Seminar on July 1, 2014 where the invited speaker Dr. Munni Begum, Associate Professor, Ball State University, USA delivered a talk on one of her recent works “A two-step integrated approach to detect differentially expressed genes in RNA-Seq data”. This seminar was of great interest to students and also the young researchers who are interested in this area. Department of Applied Statistics arranged Survey on Socio-Economic Status of individuals living in a Rural Area of Bangladesh: The department of Applied Statistics arranged a field trip to Comilla for 3 days and 2 nights (26th-28th June, 2014) for conducting a survey on Socio-Economic Status of individuals living in a rural area of Bangladesh. 54 students, 4 faculty members and 2 GTA started the survey trip from EWU campus on June 26, 2014 morning. The accommodation for students and teachers was arranged in Comilla BARD. The students received training in the conference room of BARD to learn about the methods to conduct the survey. The next day students, divided into four groups, each supervised by faculty members and GTA, went to the field site a village named “Barai” in Laksam Upazilla. They collected information from 85 households selected by students themselves using simple random sampling utilizing the existent sampling frame of the village.
