Social Relation Department arranged a public lecture at EWU
The title of the public lecture was 'University partnerships with industry and society for sustainable development: Examples from South-East Asian context'. The Lecture was presented by Professor Dr. Cameron Keith Richards, who is an internationally acclaimed Australian scholar and currently Chair of the research group Sustainable Policy Solutions for Complex Industry and Community Problems (SUSTiP), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in Kuala Lumpur. He has a multi-disciplinary background which includes specializations in sustainability studies, academic research and writing methodology, leadership and organizational learning, intercultural communication, and new literacies.

The seminar series, which was the third since its inception, was organized by the Department of Business Administration on 23 January 2014. The presentation was given on a research Paper titled “A Proposal for a New Method of Measuring Stock Market Manipulation through SEM”.

The premises of East West University on the 23rd January, 2014 was buzzed up as an extra ordinary evening to remember took place here as East university Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) arranged an event named as “Ontor Atmar Shondhaney” attributing the local ancient historical culture of Bangladesh.

Fresher’s orientation at East West University
The orientation programs of the newly admitted students for Summer Semester 2014 in different academic programs of East West University were held at the University’s own campus, at Aftabnagar, Dhaka on May 8, 2014. Every Department arranged the individual program for their newly admitted students. More than 1100 students got admitted in 10 different disciplines in this semester. Department of Economics arranged this orientation program where Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of Board of Trustees, who is also Advisor and Visiting Professor of the department, attended the program.

Orientation of BBA Program, Spring 2014D
The Orientation Program of Spring Semester, 2014 of the Department of Business Administration (DBA) was held on 10 January 2014. The program was aimed at orienting the freshers to their new university life.
They were given a presentation on the Rules and Regulations of the University. It included course registration, calculation of CGPA, concept of probation and dismissal as well as the requirements for availing scholarships and financial assistance from the university.

Fresher’s Reception at EWU
The newly enrolled students of the Summer-2014 batch of East West University (EWU) were welcomed with a vibrant musical evening organized by East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) at EWU premises on 29th May, 2014. This program was designed by the ECPA Members keeping in view the demand of the young generation. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU was the Chief Guest while Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar, was the special guest on the occasion. Dr. Abdus Sattar, Proctor, Nahid Hassan Khan, Adviser of Student Welfare Department, Nikhil Chandra Shil, Moderator of ECPA, among with faculty members, staff and students enjoyed the program.

GEB Freshers Poster Presentation
The Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department recently had its’ first Fresher Poster Presentation as part of the GEB introductory Basic Biology course. The presentation session gives the new students a chance to introduce themselves and their work to the faculty and older students in the department while learning more about Biology.

61 Years of DNA: Diamond Jubilee Celebration of DNA Discovery.
The event memorialized the day 61 years ago when Watson and Crick first presented the model of the double helix as the structure of DNA. The Network of Young Biotechnologists of Bangladesh organized the event in collaboration with the Department of GEB of the University of Dhaka. More than 450 scientists, teachers and students from 15 universities around Bangladesh participated in this event with great enthusiasm.

Department of Business Administration arranges Seminar on “Management Accounting Practices in Bangladesh: Sharing some best practice examples”
The Department of Business Administration, East West University, arranged a seminar on the topic ‘Management Accounting Practices in Bangladesh: Sharing some Best Practice Examples’ on 03 April 2014. It was the fifth Seminar in the Series that has been started by the Department.
Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Treasurer (Acting), Dean, Faculty of BE and Chairperson, DBA, provided the welcome speech. He reminded the audience that the objective of the seminar is to enhance the sharing of research knowledge among the faculty members from their publications in local and international journals. He also informed that research proposals may also be presented in the seminar that may help to improve research work.

Department of Business Administration arranges Seminar on “An Alternative Investigation of Weak Form efficiency in Dhaka Stock Exchange Based on Technical Analysis”
The Department of Business Administration, East West University, arranged a seminar on the topic 'An Alternative Investigation of Weak Form efficiency in Dhaka Stock Exchange Based on Technical Analysis' on 26 June 2014.
Mr. Mahbubul Haque Khan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Administration, EWU, presented the research paper. In his presentation, Mr. Haque stated that in general Dhaka Stock Exchange seems to be weak for efficiency. It is one of the main reasons why very few technical studies have been conducted about DSE trade rules. He found in his study that short length moving averages can significantly outperform for buy and hold strategy. It also signals the return predictability of trading rules in the Dhaka Stock Exchange market.

Department of Applied Statistics arranged a Seminar on “A two-step integrated approach to detect differentially expressed genes in RNA-Seq data”
The Department of Applied Statistics organized a Seminar on July 1, 2014 where the invited speaker Dr. Munni Begum, Associate Professor, Ball State University, USA delivered a talk on one of her recent works “A two-step integrated approach to detect differentially expressed genes in RNA-Seq data”. This seminar was of great interest to students and also the young researchers who are interested in this area. The Chief Guest of the seminar was Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BoT, EWU, the special guests were, Dr. M. Mosleh Uddin, Advisor and Coordinator, Department of Applied Statistics and Member, BoT, EWU, and Prof. Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU. The seminar was chaired by, Prof. Dr. M. Ataharul Islam, Chairperson, Department of Applied Statistics, EWU. The Pro-VC of the University, chairpersons and faculty members from different departments and the students of the department of Applied Statistics were present at the seminar

Department of Applied Statistics arranged Survey on Socio-Economic Status of individuals living in a Rural Area of Bangladesh:
The department of Applied Statistics arranged a field trip to Comilla for 3 days and 2 nights (26th-28th June, 2014) for conducting a survey on Socio-Economic Status of individuals living in a rural area of Bangladesh. 54 students, 4 faculty members and 2 GTA started the survey trip from EWU campus on June 26, 2014 morning. The accommodation for students and teachers was arranged in Comilla BARD. The students received training in the conference room of BARD to learn about the methods to conduct the survey. The next day students, divided into four groups, each supervised by faculty members and GTA, went to the field site a village named “Barai” in Laksam Upazilla. They collected information from 85 households selected by students themselves using simple random sampling utilizing the existent sampling frame of the village. This survey gave them handson experience on data collection process.

Students of East West University took oath of being honest and free from corruption in performing duties in their respective professional career on universities permanent campus Aftabnagar Wednesday. Youth Engagement and Support group of the university in cooperation of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organized the oath taking ceremony and anti corruption campaign on the occasion of the International mother language day.

Qazi Tanjul Islam won Grand Prize in "Victory Through My Lens" Photography Contest
Samsung Camera Bangladesh organized "Victory Through My Lens Photography Contest and Exhibition" at Rabindra Sorobor, Dhanmondi, Dhaka on 10th and 11th December, 2013 to celebrate the 43rd Victory Day of Bangladesh. This was an online photography contest and exhibition showcased 43rd Victory Photographs captured by 14 talented photographers with their Samsung SMART CAMERAs. 15 photographs from Five photographers of EWUPC were selected for this exhibition.

East West University condoles the death of Prof. Muhammad Sirajul Haque
Rich tributes were paid to Prof. Muhammad Sirajul Haque, former Dean of Faculty of Business and Economics of East West University as well as Chairperson of Economics Department. Condolence meeting organized by the university on Thrusday, June 26, at the university premises. Trustee Board Members, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahmed Shafee, Deans, Chairpersons of various departments, Registrar, faculty members, officers and staff, friends and relatives of the deceased were present on the occasion. The Condolence Meeting was followed by a ‘Doa Mahfil’ where special prayers were offered for the departed soul.

East West University Electronics Club Arranges Study Tour to Karnafuli Hydro Power Station, Kaptai
Power Station, Kaptai on 21 June, 2014. EWUEC often arranges such tours in order to enhance the practical knowledge of the engineering students of East West University. This tour was arranged with a view to giving a practical experience about the power generation process, specially using renewable energy resources like water.
