Professor David A. Peterson of Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science, Dartmouth College, NH, USA gave a talk at the East West University English Department Seminar Series on 15 July, 2012 in Room 309. The presentation started at 4: 40 PM and was attended by the faculties and students of the Department. The title of the paper was “Issues in the endangerment and documentation of Chittagong Hill Tracts Languages”.
Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of East West University, gave a short speech in this program, and handed over a crest to Dr. Peterson.
The talk had a few objectives, the most important being providing the students of the Department of English ideas about endangered languages and how students studying in the field of Linguistics can play a vital role in language documentation. Finally, Dr. Peterson discussed elements of linguistic training that he views as essential to production of local linguists who are prepared to make lasting contributions to the documentation of Bangladeshi languages.
