Orientation Program for New Faculty Members

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) organized a two-day long “Orientation Program for New Faculty Members” for the newly appointed faculty members of EWU who have joined in Fall 2021, Spring and Summer 2022, which was held on 03-04 June 2022. Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice Chancellor, and Founder President, Board of Directors of EWU graced the inaugural session as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU was present at the event as the special guest, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor, EWU attended the occasion as Guest of Honor. The orientation program began with a welcome address by the director of IQAC Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon.

Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice Chancellor, and Founder President, Board of Directors shared his philosophy and vision about the future of EWU with the newly appointed faculty members and give valuable directions to make our EWU as one of the leading private universities in Bangladesh for higher education.

Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, gave a presentation on How do we see the university of the Future?” and shared his valuable insights on Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and advised the new faculty members to apply the OBE teaching methods that will help to develop the skills of students including critical thinking, creativity thinking, problem solving, communication and global citizenship.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor gave a thought-provoking insight on “University Teaching” and inspired the new faculty members that will help to improve their teaching skills. The Pro-Vice Chancellor thanked the Director of IQAC for organizing the orientation program. Following the orientation program, Professor Dr. Mohamad Ruhul Amin, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, and Professor Dr. Fouzia Mannan, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences were joined as panelists in a panel discussion on “Teaching Learning at EWU”. At the end of the discussion, there was a Q&A session whereby the new faculty members vividly participated.

In day 2, three distinguished resource persons shared their expert knowledge on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Golam Azam, Professor-Cum-Advisor, Department of Business Administration, presented on “OBE Based Student Performance Assessment”, Professor Dr. Khairul AlamDepartment of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, briefly discussed “Quality Assurance in Higher Education”, and Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering focused on the topic on “Modern Outcome Based Education System”. In the span of two days, there were different sessions focusing on effective teaching and assessment methodology, OBE, and curriculum development, tools and techniques of preparing course outline, design of outcome-based question paper, faculty code of conduct and ways of dealing with students.

The two-day long orientation program was very successful as praised by the participants. Twenty new faculty members from eight departments participated in this event. The participants underscored the need of outcome-based education for ensuring quality in higher education. The participants thanked the EWU authority and IQAC for organizing this orientation program. In concluding the orientation program, the director expressed his immense gratitude to all the respected guests, Deans, speakers, and new faculty members for making the workshop a complete success.
