EWU Observes International Mother Language Day with Multiple Events

East West University (EWU) celebrated International Mother Language Day with great solemnity and fervour on February 21, 2024. This day commemorates the language movement of 1952 in Dhaka, which played a vital role in establishing Bangla as the official language and later in the independence of Bangladesh. EWU organized various events and activities to mark the day, including a "Provat Fery" in Aftabnagar area and laying wreaths at the uniquely built 'Shaheed Minar' at the EWU campus. Additionally, EWU Clubs for Performing Arts organized a cultural program titled "Obinashwar Bahanno," which included discussions, performances of traditional songs, dances, recitations, and poster exhibitions to showcase the richness and diversity of Bangla culture.

The discussion program was attended by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and founder Vice Chancellor of EWU, as the Chief Guest; H. N. Ashequr Rahman, Member of the Board of Trustees, EWU, as Special Guest; and Professor Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, as the Program Chair. The main speaker of the session was Professor Syed Akram Hossain, who was awarded 'Ekhushe Padak' and 'Rabrinda Puroskar.' During the session, speakers focused on the achievement of the language movement in 1952.

The event was attended by Dr. Muhammad A. Mannan, Member, Board of Trustees, Mr. Nowshad Shamsul Arefin, Member, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer, Deans, Faculty Members, Officials, Staff, and many students of EWU.
