Training Workshop on ‘5S-An Approach to Enhance the Workplace Effectiveness’

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a training program on ‘5S-An Approach to Enhance the Workplace Effectiveness’ for the academic administrators and administrative officers of East West University at EWUCRT Seminar Room of East West University (EWU) campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka on 04 July 2019. The training session was conducted by Mr. S.M. Ashrafuzzaman, Director (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Industry), National Productivity Organisation, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Mr. S.M. Ashrafuzzaman, talked about 5S, which is a Japanese workplace method for organizations that uses a list of Japanese words: Seiri, Seiton, Seisō, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke. These have been translated as (Sort), (Set In order), (Shine), (Standardize) and (Sustain).

Training on ‘How Best to Write a Research Proposal?’

East West University Center for Research and Training organized a training program on ‘How Best to Write a Research Proposal?’ for the faculty members and graduate students of East West University. The training was held on 7 and 14 February and 14 March 2019. The training program was conducted by Professor Dr. S. M. Nurul Alam (Retd.), Department of Anthropology, Jahangirnagar University, Adjunct Professor of Development Studies, North South University and Independent University, Bangladesh.

Training on ‘Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)’:

EWUCRT organized a training program on ‘Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)’ for the faculty members of East West University. The training was held on October 11, 25 and November 1, 8 2018 .The training program was conducted by Dr. Jashim Uddin, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University. Eighteen participants of various academic departments attended the training sessions.

Training on ‘Sampling Methods and Sample Size Estimation’:

EWUCRT organized a week long training program on ‘Sampling Methods and Sample Size Estimation’ for the faculty members of East West University. This is to improve the skills of the academic staff to draw scientific samples using various methods and estimate sample size. The training was held on April 1, 5 and 8, 2018 from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at EWUCRT Research Hub, East West University. The resource person of the training was Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan, Department of Social Relations, East West University. Fourteen participants of various academic departments attended the training sessions.

Training program on ‘How to Write a Research Proposal/ Article?’:

EWUCRT organized a Training program on ‘How to Write a Research Proposal/ Article?’ on March 10 and 11, 2018 in order to develop the academic skills of the faculty members of the university in this area. A series of interactive lectures were delivered to provide learners with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on training on preparing a research proposal/article. The training classes were conducted by Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan, Department of Social Relations, East West University and Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University. Thirteen participants of various academic departments attended the training sessions.

Training Workshop on ‘Research Methodology’:

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) organized a training workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ on February 25, 27 and 28, 2018, in which Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Deputy Executive Director, EWUCRT and Dr. Jashim Uddin, Associate Professor and Dr. Md. Abdul Momen, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University participated as resource persons.

Training Workshop on ‘Research Methodology’:

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) organized a training workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ on February 25, 27 and 28, 2018, in which Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Deputy Executive Director, EWUCRT and Dr. Jashim Uddin, Associate Professor and Dr. Md. Abdul Momen, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University were participated as resource persons.

Training program on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT), in partnership with UGC funded sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff, organized a training program on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) on 20, 30 July and 3, 10 August 2017, for faculty members of EWU in order to develop their data analysis skills. The training class was conducted by Mr. M. H. M. Imrul Kabir, Senior Lecturer, Department of Applied Statistics, East West University. He has expertise on various types of statistical data analysis software. Nineteen faculty members of various academic departments attended the training session.

Training Workshop on Research Methodology

BCS Administration Academy, Dhaka, Bangladesh has organized a training workshop on “Research Methodology” in collaboration with East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) on 21-22 April 2017, in which Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson, EWUCRT and Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Deputy Executive Director, EWUCRT participated as resource persons.

Training on Research Methodology for the staff of Bangladesh Open University

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a Training on ‘Research Methodology’ for the staff of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) from 21 November to 03 December, 2017 in order to develop the research skills of the young faculty members of BOU. During the training a series of interactive lectures provide learners with the theoretical knowledge, and hands-on training for writing a research proposal and carrying out research.

Training program on Research Software ‘Turnitin’

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) in partnership with UGC funded sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff, organized a Training program on Research Software 'Turnitin’ on March 18, 2017 in order to develop the academic skills of the faculty members of the university. The training class was conducted by Mr. Gorkey Gourab, Senior Programme Manager, at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh.

Workshop on ‘Mainstreaming Gender in International and National Climate Change Policy and Program’

March 28, 2016

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT), in collaboration with UGC/World Bank funded sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff, organized a half-day workshop on ‘Mainstreaming Gender in International and National Climate Change Policy and Program’ on March 28, 2016. This workshop focused on in-depth analysis of gender-climate interrelation that can better inform climate policy in Bangladesh as well as internationally with a focus to bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners to share their experiences on linking gender and climate change in policies. Building on unique experiences, the workshop aimed to deconstruct popular assumptions about women’s vulnerability in relation to men’s by discussing how socio-economic factors determine men and women’s vulnerability to climate change.

Center for Research and Training (CRT), jointly with UGC/ World Bank HEQEP, organized a training program on Capacity Building for Higher Degree Research (M. Phil, PhD) and PhD Scholarship Placement Assistance on March 24 and 25, 2016, respectively for faculty members of EWU. The training was conducted by Dr. Sardana Islam Khan, Deputy Executive Director, East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) and Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University and Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Vice-President, Australian Academy of Business Leadership (AABL) as resource persons.

Training program on Qualitative Research

8 January 2016 to 30 January 2016

East West University Center for Research and Training (CRT), in partnership with UGC/ World Bank HEQEP, organized 8-day long training program on Qualitative Research in January 2016, beginning on 8 January 2016 and finishing on 30 January 2016, for faculty members of EWU. The course was conducted by Professor Nurul Alam as resource person. Professor Alam has over three decades of teaching and research experience in economics, anthropology and development studies.

Training program on Research Software (i) NVivo and (ii) EndNote

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT), in partnership with UGC/ World Bank sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff, organized the following Training-Workshops on Research Software (i) NVivo and (ii) EndNote on October 29 and November 5, 2016 respectively in order to develop the research skills of the young faculty members of the university. The workshops were conducted by Mr. Gorkey Gourab, Senior Programme Manager, at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).

Workshop on Research Software Atlas.ti (Version:7)

East West University Center for Research and Training (CRT), in partnership with UGC/ World Bank HEQEP, organized 3 days workshop on a qualitative data analysis and research software: Atlas.ti (Version:7) on 15-16, 22 July,2016 for faculty members of EWU. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Md. Ali Imam, Research Investigator and Gorkey Gourab, Senior Program Manager, at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). Both of them have expertise on various type of statistical and qualitative data analysis software.

Workshop on Academic Writing, Publication and Research Methods

11-12 September, 2015

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) in collaboration with Center for Development through Open Learning, Publishing and Communication (CEDOLPC), organized a 2-day Workshop on “Academic Writing, Publication and Research Methods” for university teachers and researchers on 11-12 September, 2015. The workshop program designed to develop writing style, standards and practices of young and less experienced faculty members, researchers and authors who are interested in academic research and publication. A series of interactive lectures was provided to participants through theoretical knowledge and hands-on training for carrying out empirical research.

Training on ‘Multivariate Analysis’

May 08 to May 30, 2015

To foster better understanding and enabling proper utilization in research, East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a 7-day training workshop on, Multivariate Analysis, for the faculty members of East West University from May 08 to May 30, 2015. The training was funded by a grant from the University Grants Commission/ World Bank, CP: 3296 (knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff) and East West University. A total number of 21 Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers from different departments took hands-on training from the program. The Course covered the following topics: (i) Multiple Regression, (ii) Logistic Regression, (iii) Proportional Hazard Model, (iv) Factor Analysis and (v) Principal Components. The lectures not only covered theoretical dimension of these measurements but also its application in research.

Training on computer application of statistical software STATA

15 February-26 April, 2014

The Center organized a 10-day long hands-on training on computer application of statistical software STATA for the faculty members of East West University, from 15 February-26 April, 2014. The purpose of the training was to enhance training capabilities and skills among academics. A total number of 29 Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers from different departments undertook this hands-on training.

Training workshop on research methods

August 22, 2013 to October 04, 2013

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a seven-week training workshop on research methods from August 22, 2013 to October 04, 2013. The aim was to develop research capacity and skills of junior faculty members. The program has been designed to develop research skills in terms of identifying a researchable problem, literature review, research ethics, theoretical framework, hypothesis development, data collection and analysis.

Language documentation

CRT, in collaboration with the Department of English, will be organizing a training workshop on, Language documentation, in mid December 2012. The purpose of the training is to enhance skills and expertise in documenting language and to provide first-hand knowledge of language structure and functions.

Workshop on, Research Design and Methods

In 2011 the Center facilitated a 5-day long training workshop on, Research Design and Methods, for academics, young scholars and researchers to develop understanding of conceptual aspects of academic and empirical research and to increase proficiency in research project formulations, use of research report and report writing. There were 20 participants, consisting of faculty members and researchers from various universities including EWU, NGOs and INGOs in this training workshop.

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a Training on ‘Research Methodology’ for the staff of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) from 21 November to 03 December, 2017 in order to develop the research skills of the young faculty members of BOU. During the training a series of interactive lectures provide learners with the theoretical knowledge, and hands-on training for writing a research proposal and carrying out research.

‘Study of US Institutes (SUSI) 2018’ Grant for Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque:

Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director of EWUCRT was awarded a grant by the US State Department to undertake a six-week course titled ‘US Culture and Society’, at New York University, from 09 June–20 July 2018, under the Study of US Institutes (SUSI) Summer-2018 programme. Multinational Institute of American Studies (MIAS) of New York University conducted the course. Eighteen fellows participated in MIAS-2018 program on “US Culture and Society”. The fellows were from eighteen different countries selected from over sixty-five scholars nominated by Fulbright commissions and U.S. embassies, representing every region of the world. The programme comprised a series of lectures by prominent academicians, politicians, business and labour leaders, journalists, and government advisers, and major academic themes. Furthermore, the fellows also learnt about US culture and society from guided tours in New York (Queens, Bronx, Manhattan, China Town, Little Italy, Harlem, Brookline, etc.), Boston, New Mexico and Washington, D.C. The fellows were appointed Visiting Scholars at New York University. They have access to the University’s libraries and computer databases (journals, books, etc.) on a continuing basis for at least a year.
