Dr. Nazia Hoque Wins First Place in Oral Presentation at 2025 Mercer SOM–COP Joint Research Conference, Atlanta, USA
Dr. Nazia Hoque, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy, has been awarded First Place in the Oral Presentation category at the 2025 Mercer School of Medicine–College of Pharmacy (SOM–COP) Joint Research Conference, Atlanta, GA, USA. The conference brought together researchers from four Mercer campuses—Columbus, Savannah, Atlanta, and Macon—and showcased multidisciplinary research spanning Clinical Research, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Dr. Hoque presented her work titled “Indole-3-acetic acid attenuates LPS-induced endothelial activation and vascular inflammation by inhibiting NF-κB signaling,” highlighting new evidence on how a naturally occurring tryptophan metabolite produced by a group of gut commensal bacteria can counteract the harmful effects of a common and powerful bacterial endotoxin.
This research was conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Raquibul Hasan, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Mercer University. Dr. Hoque’s achievement underscores the strength of international scientific collaboration and reflects the impactful outcomes of her postdoctoral research supported by the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
