CRTEWU Hosts Research Proposal Seminar on Environmental Degradation and Displacement in the Sundarbans

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) successfully hosted a compelling research proposal seminar on June 26, 2025, titled “Environmental Degradation and Displacement of Forest-Dependent Communities: A Socio-ecological Study in the Sundarbans Area, Bangladesh.” The seminar took place at the CRTEWU Seminar Room of East West University (EWU).

The insightful proposal was presented by Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, East West University, on behalf of her dedicated collaborative research team. The team comprises: Dr. Rasel Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, EWU, Md. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, EWU, and Dr. Mayumi Kako, Associate Professor, School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, Japan.

The seminar explored the critical socio-ecological impacts of environmental degradation on forest-dependent communities in the Sundarbans region. Following the comprehensive presentation, attendees actively participated in a lively question-and-answer session, fostering engaging discussions on the crucial topic.

The key discussant for the seminar was Professor S. M. Nurul Alam (Retd.), Department of Anthropology, Jahangirnagar University, who provided valuable expert commentary. Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson of CRTEWU, presided over the seminar, ensuring a productive exchange of ideas.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Deputy Executive Director of CRTEWU, along with a diverse audience of faculty members, students, and officials from CRTEWU and other departments, underscoring the academic community's strong interest in environmental and social research.
