East West University Inaugurates Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026

Oct 25, 2026

The Department of Information Studies at East West University (EWU), in collaboration with the UNESCO Dhaka Office and the Media and Information Literacy Network Bangladesh (MILNetBD), officially inaugurated Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2026 today. Supported by the UN Electoral Project-BALLOT, the week-long observance will run from October 24 to October 31, 2026.

The inauguration event was held at 2:00 p.m. on 25 October 2026 at the EWU campus, bringing together university leadership, international dignitaries, faculty members, and students. The program began with a vibrant awareness rally starting from EWU’s Alor Minar (Shaheed Minar), marching through the Aftabnagar main road, and concluding at the university courtyard. Participants carried banners and placards to emphasize the growing necessity of media and information literacy in today’s digital age.

Following the rally, distinguished guests officially opened and toured the dedicated MIL Awareness Building Booth, designed to educate students and the public on navigating digital information responsibly. The event culminated in a festive cake-cutting ceremony to mark the formal opening of Global MIL Week 2026.
