EWU Law Students Become Champions at NSU Law Fest Season III- Legal Drama Segment
Team Orange from the Department of Law, East West University (EWU), has been crowned Champion of the National Legal Drama Competition at NSU Law Fest Season III, the first-ever National Legal Drama Competition in Bangladesh. The Championship award was presented by Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, Honourable Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. The competition was held on 17 September 2026 at the NSU Auditorium, North South University, and was organised by the North South University Law and Mooting Society (NSULMS).
Team Orange, led by Ashes Laskar, comprised Sirajam Munira Nimfia, Tandrela Das Pooja, M.M. Nadim Afran, Protyoy Talukder, and Turna Sarwar. The team presented its original drama, “মাটির পুতুল” (Matir Putul), centred on the theme of Child Marriage and the Right to Protection. The main character, Meenu, was inspired by UNICEF’s Meena cartoon. The principal roles were portrayed by Sirajam Munira Nimfia as Meenu, Ashes Laskar as her father, Tandrela Das Pooja as her mother, Turna Sarwar as her friend, M.M. Nadim Afran as the village Morol, and Protyoy Talukder as the Morol’s son.
The drama followed the story of Meenu, a thirteen-year-old girl whose dreams of education are shattered by eve-teasing, child marriage, and domestic violence, ultimately leading to her tragic death. The performance highlighted the gap between existing legal protections and the lived realities of children in Bangladesh. It concluded with the image of a broken clay doll, serving as a poignant symbol of the irreversible consequences of child marriage and the loss of a child’s future.
Following a preliminary selection process based on submitted scripts, eight teams from universities across Bangladesh advanced to the live final round. Team Orange ultimately secured the Championship title, receiving a prize of BDT 30,000.
The closing ceremony, held on 19 September 2026, was attended by distinguished guests, with Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, Member of Parliament and Honourable Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Bangladesh, attending as the Chief Guest and presenting the awards. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Aziz Al Kaiser, Mr. M. A. Kashem, and Mr. Benajir Ahmed, members and former Chairmen of the North South University Board of Trustees. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, chaired the ceremony, alongside Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed, Chair of the Department of Law, and Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
This achievement marks a proud moment for the Department of Law at East West University, demonstrating the potential of legal drama as a tool for raising public awareness about child marriage, children’s rights, and access to justice.
The Department of Law extends its heartfelt congratulations to the champion team and the department is immensely grateful to the Chairperson Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub for her unwavering support.
