Professor Dr. Dilara Begum Participated in the IFLA Information Futures Summit 2024


Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Honorable Chairperson, Department of Information Studies, East West University participated in the IFLA Information Futures Summit 2024 in Brisbane, Australia, held from September 30 to 3 October 2024.  The 2024 IFLA Information Futures Summit 2024 was a significant gathering of librarians, information scientists, policymakers, and advocates for open access and intellectual freedom, focused on shaping the future of information access and practices worldwide.

Professor Dr. Dilara was invited by IFLA as an Invited Speaker. She delivered a lecture on “Readiness to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) in libraries”. In her talk, she focused on the readiness of information professionals to adopt AI and relevant technologies in information institutions. Around 50 global scholars in the information field were invited to share their insights at the summit.

Professor Dr. Dilara also participated in a panel discussion session on open access as a Panelist where she addressed issues like the process of measuring the benefits of openness, ways of leveraging policies and statements to continue to make progress, processes to increase access to research and culture across all libraries, the role of state and public libraries, etc.

She was also involved in policy-related issues of IFLA and took part in the preparation of the Brisbane Declaration and IFLA Trend Report 2024.
