Dr. Nazia Hoque is a dedicated academic and researcher with over 16 years of teaching experience at several reputed universities in Bangladesh. She currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at East West University, Dhaka, where she continues to inspire and mentor future pharmaceutical scientists. Dr. Hoque earned her B. Pharm and M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Department of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She later obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the same institution, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Dhaka. In recognition of her academic excellence, she was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Visiting Scholar Postdoctoral Fellowship (2024–25), administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. During her postdoctoral research at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Mercer University, Georgia, USA, she investigated the role of bioactive molecules in inhibiting vascular inflammation and hypertension, contributing to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Hoque’s primary research interests lie in cardiovascular pharmacology, particularly in exploring how naturally occurring microbial metabolites modulate vascular inflammation and endothelial activation, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies for inflammatory cardiovascular diseases. In addition, her research encompasses the medicinal plants of Bangladesh and their associated endophytic fungi, focusing on their antioxidant, cytotoxic, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antinociceptive, and anti-inflammatory activities. She is particularly interested in the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from endophytic fungi and medicinal plants, highlighting their potential as novel drug candidates. Her research findings have been published in several reputed national and international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She has presented her work at numerous scientific conferences worldwide, earning distinguished recognition, including the ‘Young Ethnopharmacologist Award’ for Best Oral Presentation at the 18th International Congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Dhaka. She was awarded 1st place in the Oral Presentation category at the 2025 Mercer School of Medicine–College of Pharmacy (SOM–COP) Joint Research Conference, Atlanta, USA—an achievement that underscores the strength of her international scientific collaborations.
Dr. Hoque currently serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) of a research project funded by the Center for Research and Training, East West University (EWUCRT). Dr. Hoque is an active member of the American Physiological Society and serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, including Scientific Reports, BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, and Frontiers in Public Health.
