We are proud to announce that Mr. Sourav Shome, a recent undergraduate student from the Department of Civil Engineering, East West University (EWU), has been awarded full funding for his Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) program in Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada starting from Fall 2025.

Mr. Shome completed his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering with a thesis under the supervision of Dr. Md Tawfiq Sarwar, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, EWU. During his undergraduate studies, he actively participated in four research projects covering key areas of transportation engineering. The resulting papers from these projects are currently under peer review in reputed international journals, reflecting his dedication to research and innovation at an early stage of his academic career.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is recognized globally for excellence in engineering education and research. According to the QS World University Rankings (2024), UBC ranks 30th worldwide and 2nd in Canada in Civil and Structural Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering at UBC consistently places among the top 25 civil engineering schools globally, underscoring the outstanding quality of education and research that Mr. Shome will now be a part of.

Prof. Dr. Gurudas Mandal attended an international conference “International Conference on Recent Advances in Renewable Energy (RARE 2020)”, 7-9th February 2020, at NITK, Surathkal, India as a keynote speaker. He delivered his keynote speech on “Prospects of renewable energy sector in Bangladesh” in the conference. He also served as the program chair in one of the sessions. Dr. Gurudas Mandal was very delighted as the conference authority offered him to be the chief guest in the closing ceremony of the conference
