Blood Donation Camp and Thalassemia Awareness Seminar at East West University

May 19, 2025

The Rotaract Club of East West University successfully organized a two-day blood donation campaign on May 14th and 15th in collaboration with the Bangladesh Thalassemia Samity and Hospital. The campaign resulted in the collection of 120 bags of blood, which will be provided free of cost to thalassemia patients in need.

Besides the donation program, a seminar on Thalassemia Awareness was held at East West University. The event featured distinguished guests including Ms. Ismat Shehreen, Head of Student Welfare and Adviser of the Career Counseling Center, who attended as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Mr. Syed Deedar Bakht, Adviser of Bangladesh Thalassemia Samity and Hospital, and Associate Professor Dr. Fatema Ahmed. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about thalassemia, a serious genetic blood disorder, and to inspire students, faculty, and staff to contribute to the cause through voluntary blood donation.

During the seminar Professor Dr. Fatema Ahmed delivered an informative speech on thalassemia- a genetic blood disorder and its prevention methods emphasizing the importance of genetic testing and early diagnosis. Additionally, she stated that “blood tests should be performed prior to the wedding in order to prevent thalassemia.”

Mr. Syed Deedar Bakth highlighted the critical need for voluntary blood donation and how regular donors can save countless lives, especially those fighting thalassemia.

The generous participation of donors reflected the university community’s strong commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian service. The Rotaract Club of East West University extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported and contributed to this noble cause.
