May 15, 2025

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) hosted a research seminar focused on revolutionizing ophthalmology through advanced artificial intelligence. The seminar, titled “Multimodal fusion and transformer-based detection of Glaucoma with explainable AI (X AI): A study on the prevalence of primary open-angle Glaucoma,” took place at the CRTEWU Seminar Room of East West University (EWU) on 15 May 2025.
Dr. Fakir Mashuque Alamgir, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at East West University, presented the groundbreaking research proposal on behalf of the dedicated research team. His presentation unveiled an innovative methodology for glaucoma detection, leveraging the power of multimodal data fusion and sophisticated transformer-based deep learning models.
The collaborative research team also includes Mr. Rizwan Shaikh and Md. Abdur Rahman, both Lecturers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of East West University. Adding a vital clinical perspective to the project is Dr. Shabneen Rahman, Chief Consultant at Mustafiz Glaucoma Research and Eye Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Following the insightful presentation, attendees engaged in a lively question-and-answer session with Dr. Alamgir. The key discussant of the seminar was Dr. Md. Shafiul Alam, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at the University of Dhaka. Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson of CRTEWU, expertly presided over the seminar. The event also saw the enthusiastic participation of Professor Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director of CRTEWU, Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Deputy Executive Director of CRTEWU, alongside faculty members, students, and officials from CRTEWU, highlighting the university's strong dedication to fostering impactful interdisciplinary research.
