Department of Economics Holds Seminar on Population Dividends in Bangladesh

The Department of Economics at East West University (EWU) hosted a major Departmental Seminar on "Population Dividends in Bangladesh: Some Estimates from NTA and NTTA (National Transfer Account and National Time Transfer Account)". The event, held at the university's Shelley A. Mubdi Lecture Gallery on December 4, 2026.  

The distinguished speaker for the seminar was Dr. Bazlul Haque Khondker, Research Director at the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI). Dr. Khondker presented critical insights and estimates derived from the National Transfer Account (NTA) and National Time Transfer Account (NTTA) frameworks, shedding light on Bangladesh's potential to harness its demographic transition for economic growth. His presentation sparked a highly engaging discussion on policy implications for maximizing the nation's population dividend.

The seminar was graced by the presence of Mr. Kamran T. Rahman, President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), who attended as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rahman shared valuable perspectives from the business and industry sectors on the importance of human capital development and strategic planning to realize the benefits of the demographic window.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, East West University, and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank. Professor Farashuddin provided his expert commentary, highlighting the macroeconomic significance of the research and commending the Department of Economics for organizing a timely and relevant seminar. The seminar drew significant attendance from faculty members and students of the Department of Economics.
