Sep 28, 2026

The Department of Pharmacy at East West University (EWU) organized a seminar titled "Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures in Bangladesh" to observe World Pharmacists Day 2026. The event was held on September 28, 2026, at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium on the university campus.

Mr. Md. Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Member of the Board of Trustees at EWU, delivered the Keynote Speech. Mr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, attended as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, was present as the Special Guest. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor of EWU. The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy.

During the session, speakers highlighted the expanding role of pharmacy in modern healthcare systems. They emphasized the critical need for strong industry-academic collaboration to equip graduates with practical expertise, innovative thinking, and strict ethical standards required to elevate Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry globally. Key discussion points underscored that empowering pharmacists remains vital for securing patient safety, maintaining drug quality, and delivering equitable healthcare services across the nation.

To mark the occasion, the department also hosted two student competitions—a Poster Presentation and a Pharma Olympiad—followed by an awards ceremony honoring the winners. The celebration was well attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, faculty members, officials, current students, and alumni of the Department of Pharmacy.
