May 18, 2026
East West University has signed a contract with the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP), Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh, to support R&D piloting at the Center for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC). The signing ceremony was held on 20 April 2026 at the SICIP Conference Room.
The proposed Center for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC) at East West University is envisioned as a dedicated incubation and applied research hub aimed at fostering technological innovation and developing practical solutions to address emerging industry challenges. The Center will actively engage students and faculty members from multiple engineering disciplines in hands-on research, experimentation, and technology development aligned with real industrial needs.
CINTEC will commence its operation with the deployment of state-of-the-art in situ Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC), Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS/MECHATRONICS), and Ion-Selective Field Effect Transistor (ISFET) based rugged sensors, IOT, big data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cutting-edge analytical methods for the realization of an Autonomous Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for Bangladeshi RMG, Leather, and Textile Industries, which may deliver substantial economic benefits to the country. CINTEC is committed to promoting “green” technology solutions that foster environmentally responsible business practices. Gradually, CINTEC will identify additional societally important and environmentally relevant Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) driven solutions to address industry challenges through comprehensive research and analysis.
Professor Dr. Md. Mojammel Al Hakim will lead the project from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, East West University, who submitted the draft proposal to the Finance Ministry. He will be accompanied by Dr. Fakir Mashuque Alamgir from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Ms. Jarin Tasnim Heia from the Department of Civil Engineering. The Honorable Vice Chancellor of East West University, Professor Shams Rahman, will serve as the Advisor of the project.
The project duration is from 1 May 2026 to 31 December 2028, with a total contract amount of BDT 90,380,800. Through this collaboration, East West University aims to strengthen industry-academia partnerships, hands-on research, student engagement, and sustainable technology development in Bangladesh.
