EWU Department of Law Organizes Two-Day Short Certificate Course on Maritime & Marine Insurance Law and Admiralty Practice

The Department of Law, East West University (EWU), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) and its technical partner MCLaw Services Ltd., successfully organized a two-day Short Certificate Course on “Introduction to Maritime & Marine Insurance Law and Admiralty Practice” on 7–8 August 2026 at the S.M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery, East West University.

The specialized course brought together students, legal professionals, and maritime practitioners, providing participants with an opportunity to explore the fundamental principles and practical dimensions of maritime law. The two-day program featured interactive lectures, case studies, group exercises, and an assessment covering key areas of maritime law, admiralty practice, marine insurance, shipping documents, IMO conventions, carriage of goods by sea, and international trade.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mossaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, East West University, as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. S.K. Samidul Islam, District and Sessions Judge, Narail, Mr. Mohammad Faruque, District and Sessions Judge and Director (Research and Publication), JATI, Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, President, BMLS and Adv. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers, MCLaw Services Ltd., Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub, Chairperson, Department of Law, EWU, and Dr. Rumana Islam, Professor, Department of Law, EWU as the Program Chair.

The academic sessions were conducted by experienced legal and maritime professionals, including Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, Adv. Shweata Mishra, and Engr. Ataur Rahman, offering participants valuable insights into both the legal framework and practical application of maritime law.

The Closing Ceremony featured distinguished guests including Commodore Md. Shaful Bari (ND), OSP, ndc, psc, BN, Director General, Department of Shipping, as Chief Guest; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, East West University; Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hye, Former Ambassador of Bangladesh; and Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer, East West University. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants, followed by a commemorative photo session.

The initiative reflects the commitment of Department of Law of East West University to connect academic learning with professional practice and provide students and legal professionals with opportunities to develop knowledge in emerging and specialized areas of law.
