EWU Hosts Panel Discussion on the Future of Freight Forwarding and Logistics in Bangladesh

The Department of Business Administration, East West University (EWU), organized a panel discussion titled “Freight Forwarding and Logistics Industry in Bangladesh: The Way Forward,” bringing together senior industry professionals and academics to discuss the current state, key challenges, and future priorities of Bangladesh’s logistics sector.
The industry panel included Mr. Shahed Latif, General Manager – Procurement, City Group; Mr. Shahriar Malik, Head of Supply Chain, South Asia, Checkpoint Systems; Mr. Iqbal Anwarul Islam, Country Director, Recover; Mr. Maruf Hossain Khan, Managing Director, Star Concord (BD) Ltd.; and Mr. Kazi Mahfuz, CEO, Cargostar Bangladesh. Their diverse professional backgrounds provided valuable perspectives from both shippers and logistics service providers.
The EWU research team was led by Professor Dr. Md. Ariful Islam, Project Leader, who also chaired the panel discussion, with participation from Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration, and other faculty members of the research team. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University, also joined the session and shared his remarks, highlighting the significance of the initiative.
The discussion covered customs and regulatory procedures, freight forwarding services, infrastructure and connectivity, warehousing, technology adoption, workforce capabilities, stakeholder coordination, and shipper expectations. The panelists also identified existing gaps and discussed practical priorities for improving the efficiency and competitiveness of Bangladesh’s logistics ecosystem.
The panel discussion formed part of an ongoing EWU research initiative aimed at assessing the current state of Bangladesh’s logistics and freight forwarding sector and identifying priority areas for future development. The session provided valuable industry insights for the research while contributing to stronger academia–industry engagement in addressing the future needs of Bangladesh’s logistics sector.
