EWUCRT Hosts 140th Research Seminar on Potential Alzheimer’s Treatment Using Calophyllum inophyllum

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) hosted its 140th research seminar on August 13, 2026, at the EWUCRT Seminar Room. The research proposal presentation was titled "Neuropharmacological Assessment of Calophyllum inophyllum Against Alzheimer’s Disease: In vitro, In vivo and In silico Approaches." The study is led by a research team from the Department of Pharmacy at East West University (EWU), comprising Principal Investigator Ms. Joya Rani (Lecturer), Dr. Rejina Afrin (Associate Professor), and Ms. Susmita Das (Lecturer).
On behalf of the research team, Ms. Joya Rani presented the proposed project, detailing how the team plans to evaluate the neuropharmacological potential of the plant species Calophyllum inophyllum against Alzheimer’s disease using integrated computational, laboratory, and live model testing.
The program started with introductory remarks from Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Executive Director of EWUCRT. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University.
Dr. Sheikh Zahir Raihan, Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University of Dhaka, joined the seminar virtually as the key discussant. Dr. Raihan offered expert analysis and insights on the methodological design and practical implications of the proposed research. Following the discussant's review, the audience engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session.
Distinguished attendees included Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, alongside faculty members, research scholars, and officials from EWUCRT. The event concluded with closing commentary and a formal vote of thanks delivered by the Chair, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman.
