EWUCRT hosts an Insightful Seminar on the Cultural and Social Dimensions of Bengali Muslim Cuisine in Dhaka

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) has organized a research seminar titled “Bengali Muslim Cuisine in Dhaka City: Exploring Cultural, Religious, and Social Dimensions.” On January 15, 2026. The program was held at the EWUCRT Seminar Room on the East West University (EWU) campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
The research proposal was presented by a distinguished team from the Department of Sociology at EWU, featuring Dr. Muhammad Rehan Masoom, Associate Professor; Mr. Ishtiaq Mohammod Fakhruddin, Senior Lecturer; and Ms. Sadia Binta Zaman, Lecturer. Their presentation delved into the evolving landscape of Bengali Muslim cuisine, highlighting how food serves as a lens to understand broader cultural and religious identities within Dhaka.
Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, chaired the seminar, while Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, served as the program’s facilitator. The session was enriched by the insights of Dr. Hafiza Khatun, Retired Professor of the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Dhaka, who participated as the main discussant. The proceedings began with welcome remarks from Professor Dr. Sohel Rana, Executive Director of EWUCRT, who set the stage for the intellectual exchange.
In attendance were Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury and esteemed members of the Board of Trustees of EWU. The seminar concluded with a vibrant and interactive Q&A segment, where faculty members, students, and EWUCRT officials engaged deeply with the presenters on the findings and implications of their research.
