Teachers’ Training Program on Teaching, Learning, and Research (TLR) – Third Phase Inaugurated at East West University

The inaugural session of the Teachers’ Training Program on Teaching, Learning, and Research (TLR) – Third Phase – was held at the S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery of East West University (EWU), Aftabnagar, Dhaka, on 16 October 2025. Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor of EWU, presided over the session as the Program Chair. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, attended the program as the Special Guest.
In his welcome address, Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, and Additional Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), EWU, highlighted the objectives and significance of the TLR training program. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, the Special Guest, made several requests to the Chief Guest representing the UGC regarding course approval, research funding, and other academic matters. He emphasized that EWU is preparing its new faculty members to meet global standards.
In his speech, the Chief Guest, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, praised East West University for its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of higher education through systematic faculty development initiatives. He highlighted that EWU is an iconic symbol of educational excellence for other institutions, noting that its Chairperson of the Board of Trustees is one of the most honest and efficient individuals in the country. Additionally, he mentioned that the Vice Chancellor is a renowned scientist, recognized among the top two percent in the world, and an outstanding educator.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, speaking as Program Chair, reflected on the founding vision of EWU and noted how the university nurtures students from lower-income families. He mentioned that EWU provides scholarships to 25 percent of its students in various forms. He also encouraged the trainee faculty members, inspiring them to contribute to EWU’s goal of becoming a distinguished educational institution in the region very soon.
The training program, organized by the IQAC of EWU, brings together 36 new faculty members from various departments and aims to build their capacity in effective teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, and research-based academic practices.
