East West University Hosts Landmark Research Seminar on Ecofriendly Nanoparticle Disinfectants to Combat Superbugs

Jul 16, 2026

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT)  hosted a crucial research seminar titled "Synthesis of Metallic Nanoparticle Based Ecofriendly Disinfectants and Evaluation of Their Anti-Microbial Efficacy against the Multi-drug Resistant Bacteria." The event was held at the EWUCRT seminar room on July 16, 2026. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University (EWU). Proceedings commenced with an introductory speech by Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Director of EWUCRT, who introduced the distinguished research team behind the study.

The centerpiece of the seminar was a joint keynote presentation delivered by a collaborative, cross-institutional team of researchers, including:

  • Dr. Md. Amirul Islam, Professor, Department of Pharmacy, East West University
  • Dr. Chowdhury Faiz Hossain, Professor, Department of Pharmacy, East West University
  • Ms. Farhana Akter, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, East West University
  • Mr. Md. Jahid Hossain, Lecturer, Department of Pharmactical Technology, University of Dhaka
  • Mr. Muhammad Salehuddin Ayubee, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, Northern University Bangladesh

The presentation detailed the successful synthesis of environmentally safe, metallic nanoparticle-based disinfectants. It provided critical data demonstrating their high efficacy in neutralizing multi-drug resistant "superbugs," offering a promising green solution to clinical and public sanitation challenges.

Serving as the key discussant, Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, provided valuable academic commentary, emphasizing the study's scientific merit. Following the formal presentations, the floor was opened for a lively interactive question-and-answer session. The seminar drew an engaged audience comprised of EWU faculty members, EWUCRT officials, and enthusiastic students, all sparking dynamic dialogue on the future of nanotechnology in medicine.
