Participation of webinar on “Masterclass on THE Impact Rankings 2021” organized by The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh

Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University has attended in a webinar on “Masterclass on THE Impact Rankings 2021” organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh on 22 September 2021. The webinar was started with a welcome speech by Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Director, Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance (SPQA) unit, UGC. Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Member, UGC presided over the session. He has highlighted the importance of the global university ranking. The main purpose of the event was “How the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings measure and assess the global performance of universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals”. Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer, THE briefly explained redefining university excellence: How the SDGs are driving new performance metrics and helping to re-frame university rankings-special report for Bangladesh, and Elizabeth Shepherd, Managing Director, THE Consultancy clarified the role and purpose of THE with a case study from Thailand: supporting the government with SGDs policy making and strategy. Finally, Hannah Peacock, Impact Ranking Product Owner, THE briefly discussed the methodology for submitting data in THE impact rankings.

A total of 68 participants from 34 public and private universities of Bangladesh including the Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice Chancellors and Directors of IQAC actively participated in the virtual workshop. The event was ended with concluding remarks by Jesmin Pervin, Additional Director, Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance (SPQA) unit, UGC. The participants found the program fruitful, and they thanked the UGC for organizing this webinar.
