Workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Implementation in B. Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics Program”

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) organized a day-long workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Implementation in B. Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics Program” for the faculty members of the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS), which was held on 07 October (Saturday) 2023. The program began with a welcome address by Professor Dr. Gurudas Mandal, Chairperson, Department of MPS.

Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and Additional Director of IQAC was present at the event as a resource person and delivered a talk on “Structure and Components of the OBE Curriculum for B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics Program”. Professor Wasif Reza discussed the importance of the issues of academic quality work, components of OBE, Program Educational Objectives (PEO), Program and Course Outcomes, PEOs, PLOs and CLOs, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Bloom’s Taxonomy. After the lunch break, Dr. Wasif conducted another session on “Assessment Strategies of Students in Mathematics Program under OBE”. He highlighted the different assessment tools, how to use rubrics in assessment (presentation, viva.), how to prepare exam questions for different levels, continuous quality improvement, and bloom's taxonomy.

The session was highly interactive. The program was attended by seventeen faculty members of the department of MPS. There was a group discussion and mostly area of discussion was on designing of course outcomes and aligning them with program outcomes. There was an open Q&A at the end of the session. The fruitful workshop ended with a vote of thanks from the Chairperson of the Dept. of MPS. The participants thanked the EWU authority and appreciated the IQAC for organizing this type of program.
