A Successful First Step Towards Transformation from Traditional to Outcome-Based Education

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) hosted a two-day international symposium webinar on “Transition from Traditional to Outcome-Based Education: Call of the Hour” was held on 13-14 November 2020. Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, Hon’ble Education Minister was graced the inaugural session as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh presented in the event as the special guest. Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice Chancellor of EWU chaired the program. Professor Dr. M.M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU delivered welcome speech on this occasion.

The closing session was attended by Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, member of Bangladesh Accreditation Council and Professor Dr. Habibul Haque Khondker, Zayed University, United Arab Emirates as chief guest and special guest, respectively. Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU chaired the session. Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro Vice Chancellor of East West University delivered speech about the event. Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon, Director of IQAC, and convenor and moderator of the international symposium webinar gave concluding remarks on the event.

The world renowned distinguished Prof. Dr. Tom Ward, Deputy Vice Chancellor Leeds University, UK, and Prof. Charlotte Holland, DCU Institute of Education, Dublin City University, Republic of Ireland; Prof. Dr. Krishna Vedula, Dean Emeritus of the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, USA; Professor Dr. Yong Lim Foo, Singapore Institute of Technology; Dr. King Chong, Manager, Teaching and Learning Centre, Lingnan University, Hong Kong, China; Professor Dr. Jim Tognolini, The University of Sydney, Australia; Professor Dr. Habibul Haque Khondker, Zayed University, United Arab Emirates; Professor Dr. A. K. Enamel Haque, East West University; and  Dr. Amanullah Khan, ADB shared their expertise knowledge about the changes in higher education, SDS4 and the education systems during pandemic in their universities. We expect that the participants have learned a lot from them, and the recommendations of the symposium will certainly help us to develop our educational models.

The symposium was anchored by Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Chairperson, Dept. of Business Administration, and Dr. Anisur Rahman, Associate Professor, Dept. Computer Science and Engineering of EWU.

Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and with guidance from Pro-Vice Chancellor, the symposium was organized by IQAC as mentioned before with outstanding contributions from B.E.M. Manjur-e-Khuda, CTO and Dr. Rezwanul Huq, Associate Professor, CSE. Also, appreciation goes to Dr. Reatul Karim, Mr. Rashedul Amin Tuhin, Mr. Riddho Ridwanul Haque for their assistance.

The webinar was digitally managed and done excellently using Zoom Video Webinar where our ICS team played an instrumental role under the leadership of our CTO B.E.M. Manjur-e-Khuda who acted as the digital host as well for the entire program.

Last but not the least our Public Relation Officer S.M. Mohiuddin has also helped us with both electronic and print media coverage on the symposium.

 The two-day symposium was very successful as praised by the participants. The symposium was attended by hundreds of teachers and researchers, including renowned professors from Asia, Europe, America and Australia. With that we believe that our journey has begun towards this important educational transformation, much needed in 21st century.
